Glacier Glove Pro Angler Review

I suffer from a condition called can't stand the cold. As a native of Arizona, I don't encounter symptoms very often (and my idea of cold is different than the rest of the world's), but when I do, it puts a cramp on my ability to fish. And lets be honest, what else really matters? My dexterity is greatly reduced which makes it hard to tie knots or feather the spool with my thumb on baitcasters or with my finger tips on a spinning reel. Sometimes when pulling all-nighters my hands can get so cold that it's downright painful. I also use braided line on the majority of my setups and we all know how much water braid can soak up and pour over your reel/hands.
Well, this year I decided to do something about it and buy a pair of Glacier Glove's Pro Anglers. Insulation, waterproofing and the ability to open up the thumb/index finger when needed were mandatory.
The manufacturer's description is as follows:
Our top of the line fishing glove. Premium 2mm fleece-lined neoprene and perfect curve fingers for a comfortable, natural fit. Features slits on the thumb and index finger for optimal dexterity, and Touchrite Technology for maximum grip.
Lets get right into it!
Pros:
- The fleece lining is very warm. In fact, the fleece lining is down right comfortable. In one field test I didn't put the gloves on until my hands were already cold and wet from 54 degree water. After putting them on, it didn't take long for my hands to get back up to a comfortable temperature. The neoprene also does a good job of keeping your hands dry incase you need to quickly submerge them or are faced with a lot of sea spray.
- You can either slide your fingers out and keep the gloves low profile, or velcro them back incase they get in the way. I pin back my index finger on my reeling hand so it doesn't repeatedly hit the handle. Though, this might be a bit too bulky on some of the smaller finesse reels with small handles. I always keep my thumb open when using baitcasters and its like the gloves aren't hampering your casting skill at all.
- The open finger option is also very handy if you like to check your smart phone from time to time or take pictures. Modern day touch screens will only detect interaction from your fingers or special styluses. If one of your hands is already holding something, you can use your teeth to help remove a finger from the other glove.
- The pre-curved fingers make wearing these gloves comfortable and your hands wont feel fatigued after using them all day.
Cons:
- They come with a cheap velcro strap around the wrist to keep them tight and you will probably use it because these gloves run a bit larger than you'd think. (Make sure you chose the smaller size if you're having any doubts because you need a nice snug fit when fishing.) Not only does this strap look cheap, but they easily could've designed it to stay close to the glove and not flap around when you open it up. I've had thoughts of removing it all together but in the end you still want these gloves tightly wrapped around your wrists.
- Even if you find the right fit for your finger/hand length, the gloves are still a bit "puffy" around the palm area, but this never bothered my while holding something like my rod/reel.
Conclusion:
For around $45 with tax and shipping I don't regret making this purchase one bit. They appear to have been designed with anglers in mind and they satisfy every need that I have while fishing. I can't comment on how durable they are because I've only been using them for a couple of months, but I've put them through some tough environments including plenty of treble hooks and they look like they could last for years to come.
Now I have no excuse to not fish at night.
